Emma uncovered her love for video production and animation when she studied information design at the University of Pretoria.
She started her career as a graphic designer at Gamefinity. Before too long she started her first motion designer role at Studio Bolland (an animation, motion design and game development company) in Cape Town, before joining us at TopLine Film – which became Definition.
Her favourite thing about her role is the actual process of animation. She enjoys working out the details and chipping away at the animation. Despite it taking hours and hours to perfect, seeing the video come together at the end is so rewarding.
And her favourite type of client? One that trusts her in the creative process.
How has the video industry changed?
According to Emma the video and animation industry’s changing really fast because tech is changing really fast.
Right now, we’re seeing two equal and opposite trends:
- People are pushing for hyper-realistic 3D animations.
- At the same time, handmade animations are getting more love.
Since Spider-Man into the Spider-verse and Arcane was released, people are rediscovering how interesting traditional animation can be and that it can actually be very, very exciting and visually rich.
